About Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are part of the immune system. While it usually starts in lymph nodes or other lymph tissue, it can sometimes affect the skin. It most often affects adults but is sometimes found in children also.
Since lymph nodes are present throughout the body, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma can occur in a number of sites, including:
- Lymph nodes
- Spleen
- Thymus
- Bone marrow
- Adenoids or tonsils
- Digestive tract
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas are classified by how fast they grow and spread:
- Indolent lymphomas grow and spread slowly and may not need immediate treatment.
- Aggressive lymphomas grow and spread rapidly and should be treated right away.
