John M. Koval, M.D.

John M. Koval, M.D. is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology. He is a graduate of Loyola University of the South, New Orleans, LA., and received his medical degree from University of Miami School of Medicine in 1975. Dr. Koval completed his fellowship in Brachytherapy at USC/LA County Hospital, Los Angeles, CA and his residency program in Therapeutic Radiology and Radiation Oncology at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, CA in 1979 while serving as Attending Staff Radiation Oncologist until 1981. During his tenure 1980 – 1983, Dr. Koval served as Assistant Clinical Professor for the Radiation Oncology department at University of California San Diego School of Medicine, Chairman of the Radiation Oncology Division Department of Radiology and Director of the Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program at Naval Regional Medical Center, San Diego, CA.

In 1983, Dr. Koval moved to Tampa to serve as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and Brachytherapy in the Radiation Therapy Department at University Community Hospital where he practiced 26 years.

Dr. Koval’s affiliations includeTampa General Hospital, HCA’s SouthBay Hospital, HCA’s Brandon Regional Hospital, HCA’s Florida South Tampa Hospital,  Advent Health Carrollwood, Advent Health Zephyrhills, and Advent Health Tampa. He has special expertise in High and Low dose rate Brachytherapy particular to prostate, breast, head/neck and skin cancer. In addition, he has experience in Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) for many organ sites and has completed up to 1,000 prostate seed implants as well as Mammosite applications for early stage breast cancer patients.

Dr. Koval is an associate publisher in 6 publications with specificity to brachytherapy and external beam irradiation. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology, Hillsborough County Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Florida Radiological Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Koval joined Tampa Bay Radiation Oncology in 2009 and works in their  Tampa, Brandon, and CyberKnife Offices.
